Updating firmware for dell equallogic ps series storage arrays
A cluster of three VMware ESXi 6.5 hosts are consuming volumes on this array, each with two physical NICs for i SCSI traffic (MPIO).
While assessing the necessary upgrade steps, it seemed that a direct in-place upgrade was not possible.
If you choose to proceed, you will be shown the current firmware version and the version to which you will update. The update will take effect after the next member restart.
You will then be given the choice to proceed again. If you want to restart now, invoke the "restart" command.
After the update completes, you can restart the hosts.
During an array restart, volumes with data on the array will be momentarily unavailable until the restart completes.
Multiple upgrades were required when looking at the Dell documentation.
Gladly, the Storage Update Manager tool figures out exactly which steps you need to take before ending up on the version you want to.
Dell highly recommends that you use Dell Storage Update Manager to update your current Dell Equal Logic storage configuration.
However, you can continue to perform firmware and disk drive updates manually.
